@darkpixel I'd note that Noctalia and DMS are frameworks built on top of Quickshell. You could use Quickshell and build it up yourself but the experience would be very much different from using the other two which offer cohesive desktop experiences.

As a CachyOS/Hyprland/Noctalia user with a generalized workflow that includes some gaming I'm very much a fan of it and have been content since I switched to using the shell in January. For me that's pretty long time for me to stick with something and I still have no intention on switching away.

No personal experience with DMS but I've heard positive things about it.

#cachyOS #Hyprland #Noctaliashell #wayland

Noctalia nutzt hier einfach #fdfind
Passt.

Really important update for #cachyOS here. The installer has felt like it's been lagging behind the distro's changes for a couple releases now.

Improvements to the bootloader selection process, including setting Limine as the default, is an enormous improvement to the onboarding process for new users. systemd-boot is basic and bare and that's great, but I think an advanced user is more able to identify what they DON'T need in a bootloader which made it a bad default.

Cleaning up the default package installations for #gnome and #niri is a big help. They were both outdated and messy, especially Niri. Another win for newer users here, since the default state of their environment is a lot less likely to be tinkered with.

I really like completely adopting #noctaliashell for CachyOS's Niri installations. I've been experimenting with it and have found it to be well conceived and often a more polished experience than even what the biggest desktop environments offer.

I'd like the option to auto-install Noctalia for CachyOS #hyprland as well. I imagine that it's on the table but probably requires a maintainer.

Installed Niri on my Endeavour OS, along the Noctalia shell (from git). It's ok, but it's missing lots of things, like showing which keyb language is active, or setting up when the machine should sleep etc. Also, it thinks I'm in Tokyo... Other than that, it looks cool. But I gotta say, I'm not so keen on tiling window managers, although I use them from time to time.

Will likely be refreshing my #CachyOS #Hyprland install again soon because I'm a sucker for tabula rasa and I'd like to start fresh when I switch to #noctaliashell.

One thing I'd also like to change is finally ditching SDDM. Still looking at all of the options, but nothing is really jumping off the page at me yet. Would love some suggestions for good display managers that pair well with wayland compositors.

Wow, i went from #NoctaliaShell 2.something to 3.7.5 and it doesn't cease to amaze.

This was a neat thing to discover with Noctalia shell's Weather widget: there's rain drops on the widget itself it it's gonna rain/is currently raining 😄

Neue #noctaliashell 3.3 mit Regen-Animation und einige Goodies mehr. Schick!
