For a moment I had #VRChat and OpenBrush working on #CachyOS Linux. But now that there’s a fresh xrizer branch that may improve WMR controller tracking which I am eager to try, basalt for slam tracking refuses to build.

[Thread 1/3] I switched my 8 year old laptop over to Linux yesterday, and honestly I'm impressed. I went with CachyOS which is more focussed on performance/gaming/bleeding-edge updates, as opposed to one that focusses more on stability and ease of use, but even so I'm impressed by how well it went and how easy it was to set up.

If you're a regular user who does web, email, youtube, writing documents etc. you'll be fine, you're basically 100% covered. everything you need is either installed by default or is easily available through the built-in package manager, which is basically the same thing as an app store except everything is free. Only real pain point is that the non-commecial alternatives they offer have different names, e.g. LibreOffice instead of Microsoft Office. Security updates are extremely unobtrusive, most don't require reboots and they will never force reboot you.

An option to replace something vaguely like Macrium Reflect on Windows for CachyOS is:

If you want to create an offline version of your entire OS installation so it can be recovered on a new drive then this toolkit will allow you to create an .ISO of your current OS installation 😁

Windows allows for bootable entire OS drive images backups from within running system using VSS (Volume Shadow Services) which is actually a very cool feature.

@shanmukhateja hi, I run CachyOs as my daily driver for some time (over a year) now. I have a AMD CPU and an Nvidia GPU. Works fine with day to day tasks and gaming too.

Previously I had no experience with arch based distros. Been using Debian, mint and ubunto before.

I don't plan to switch soon, because I'm satisfied for now.

For some reason #Firefox keeps freezing and requiring a hard-restart after waking from sleep. I figure it must be another #nvidia driver shenanigan, based on a cursory search for similar issues.

Annoying, but I guess it can be mitigated by just closing FF before clicking Sleep.

It seems that blocking the traffic defined in RFC 3514 s not a standard or documented feature of CachyOS 😕

Disappointing.

Is anyone working on this or do I need to work this out for myself? 😉
