#Google #Nest escapees, what’s a good alternative to #NestProtect? I got a notification mine are coming up on 10 years of age and due to be replaced, but I want to #degoogle my life.
Our house is old & we don’t have a common smoke detector wire through the house, so maybe something #zigbee to sync alarms?
FWIW, this #smarthome is running #HomeAssistant on a #raspberrypi #RPi5 with #Hubitat feeding into it. Also have a #Linux #Ubuntu server if that helps.

I have done it. Despite the usual 2.4Ghz network related nonsense with IoT and my general nervous disposition when dealing with electrical matters. I have removed my #Nest Learning Thermostat Gen 3 and replaced with the #DraytonWiser HubR Gen 2. I took some pleasure, tinged with sadness mind you, at deleting my Nest account which I never migrated! I’m a little bit more #DeGoogled It’s a shame the guys sold out to Google. Nest was an innovative product. #DIY

There is a cardinal couple that made a nest in a bush at the front of the house. My poor husband despises this bush because it grows out of control and needs to be trimmed constantly. Today he conceded that it will just grow and grow and look a mess all summer since the cardinals made it their home.

No eggs so far. My oldest took a peek.
