Kevin Boyd (he/him) 🇨🇦Oh boy, enshittification continues. #Garmin just killed the #Navionics Web App, which many #boaters used for route planning. Supremely useful offering for people of all backgrounds - and now that aspect is completely dead.
Corporations were a mistake.
Yesterday I made my first 100+ nautical mile passage. I have sailed distances like this before with this boat but that was a race and fully crewed. 110 NM ~20 hours, 7 of those by engine. Start at 07:00, landed 03:00 the next morning. 5.6 kn avg speed, helped by a ~0.4 kn current most of the way. Nice experience. Would I do it again? Yes, probably if needed but I do tend to enjoy shorter daysails more, where I can sail in lighter winds and not be forced to run the engine if I'm "not fast enough". Also, #navionics calculated the distance and avg speed seriously wrong on the pad for some reason. Suspect it was that my #yacker does some conversion of the data that messes things up, but without it I wouldn't have #AIS targets on my pad, nor depth soundings. #sailing

Sollte im besten Fall als App/browserbasiert funktionieren, da ich unterwegs nur Smartphone & Tablet dabei habe. Kennt jemand was?
