A good reminder before heading out.

One of the early priorities offshore is simple.

Get into clear water early - less traffic - leave shallow distractions behind - create space to settle into the passage properly.

The first hours offshore are often less about speed and more about creating time, room, and clarity for the decisions ahead.

What helps you feel properly “underway” once land starts to fall behind?

There is a moment in sailing that does not get much attention. We spend a lot of time preparing to leave. Planning routes, watching weather, organising the boat, thinking through what might happen. Then the lines are cast off, and suddenly the focus shifts. You are no longer preparing; you are doing. It is often […]

Storm tracking 🌩️

Storm tracking is not about reacting. It is about planning ahead.

🌬️ Understand direction, speed, and likely movement

🧭 Work out if you are in the navigable semicircle or the dangerous semicircle

⚠️ Good positioning before conditions build is far easier than trying to fix it later

Plan early. Stay ahead. Stay safe.

Checking Weather🌦️

One app isn’t enough
Most people check a single forecast and move on.

That’s where problems start.

📊 Compare at least two sources

📈 Focus on trends, not headlines

⚠️ If timing, wind, or direction don’t line up
treat it as a warning
reassess your plan
check another source

Distance perspective. What looks close on the horizon often is not - or it is - at night caution is needed we lose all depth of vision. Binoculars are super helpful!
Good sail shape makes everything easier. Trim is free speed! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Another boat on the same breeze. The race is on!
Wind texture on the water. Dark patches can mean business. Have you snagged our free guys 'once the lines are cast off'?
Wake check. Your track shows your leeway (angle of wake to straight off the stern) - and that darn boat is catching us again!
