@bazkie well, you can to an extent.

@icedquinn @tknarr @navi sadly you are correct to the point that @fuchsiii jokingly says that:

#Win32 / #Win64 is the most stable #ABI on #Linux.

Personally, I am so frustrated about this situation that I mandate all applications for @OS1337 to ship their dependencies with themselves statically linked.

  • Making it the problem of the Softwares' Maintainers!
    • If they use some stuff that doesn't allow that, then that's their problem…
  • But then again I also statically compile against #musl because #GlibC is notorious for bricking shit with minor updates and anything #GNU seems to be run by folks who think: 'Just recompile it with the new version!' is a valid answer for their bullshit.

The public key fingerprint for #musl release signatures is:

8364 8929 0BB6 B70F 99FF DA05 56BC DB59 3020 450F

Republishing this here now for the first time since our move to Treehouse, to follow a past practice for redundancy of sources of trust.

Idea for a #musl pin or bumper sticker:

WE ❤️ FTMs

😂

Is Alpine Linux bad at RAM management in general? I find myself having to manually restart apps, mostly browsers (native, musl) more often than with glibc based systems to free memory up after heavy use.

I daily drive desktop Alpine since ~3 years now, it has always been an issue. Not dealbreaker but annoying.

While watching Brodie Robertson's reaction to LTT trying Linux again, I installed Void Linux. I picked the musl base live image and after install I had to manually install xfce and sum stuffs.

I'll be doing the stuff I've been doing in the cachyos vm here.

3/3 #BSD offers libcitrus. #musl C library includes support and gettext-tiny makes use of musl to provide a lightweight alternative for embedded systems. There are #C, #Perl and #Python versions of msgfmt. I'm learning more about the format by writing my own msgfmt utility. #DFD2026
4/5 I thought of #LFS with #musl, but modern #Linux builds continue to increase in complexity over time. Multiple dependencies and languages are often required to build programs from source. Most Linux distributions appear to be moving away from support for older hardware.

@sudorandom the only disadvantages I can say about #fish #shell are:

  • it's not that standard shell on #Linux (#bash is!)
  • it's quite THICC at ~ 2,5 MB
  • It obviously (and necessarily) breaks compatibility to any other shell...

Still, I do intent to package it someday for @OS1337 simply because for a "fully-fledged, everyday" #toybox + #musl / #linux distro that wants to maximize #MDA @ 80x25 I'll propably need more functionality than I can reasonably expect @landley to include into toybox's own shell, which AFAIK doesn't support .bash_aliases or other alias / function declarations per config file *as of the time of writing this...

  • But then again that's me being nitpicky and different scopes of interest...

@whitequark yeah, I merely chose toybox hecause it's smaller and I wanted to make a #GNUfree #toybox + #musl / #linux distro!
