So far #Kagi is working much better than Google has lately. Definitely a permanent change for me.

Sometimes, I receive questions which leave both me, and the person asking, bamboozled.

> Your website loads so quickly! What CDN do you use?

There is no CDN. It is just really small and simple, mostly text.

> Sure, but is that Cloudflare, or...?

None. It is a tiny website, just a few kilobytes per page, on a tiny server, at my home, connected to the Internet via my ISP, Andrews & Arnold.

> But are you / they in the cloud?

No. The webserver is in Newbury, in my garage.

> Neil, please can you pass my questions to your technical person? I don't think you understand, your website cannot be in your home. It must be in the cloud or have a CDN.

Connect water to the houses puzzle: https://boingboing.net/2025/06/25/fountain-puzzle-connect-water-to-houses-without-crossing-pipes.html

It says something that as an engineer my first thought is to just connect E to B, F to C and G to D. It's just water, it's fungible, why does it matter which source goes to which house?

@pluralistic

"If you take this marshmallow, it will hurt everyone, *including you* for the rest of your life. You understand? But since you already have so many marshmallows, surely you can wait and -"

Billionares: (already eating the marshmallow) "Sorry, I wasn't listening. Give me another marshmallow or I'll burn down this entire fucking building and everyone inside of it."

I still think the final exam to qualify as a software engineer should involve writing control code for a drop-forge to stop the head 24" above the working surface with an acceptable error of +/- 1/16". Test to be performed with the engineer lying on the working surface. This would rid us of dependence on LLMs tout suite.

@Kierkegaanks

the application of chatGPT into my clinical practice was...problematic.

In 2016 MN Police killed a Black man named Philando Castile despite him calmly disclosing he had a legal & registered firearm.

Yesterday MN Police released a white woman named Jenny Boelter despite her car full of cash, firearms, & passports hours after her husband mass murdered people & was on the run from police.

This injustice is what systemic white supremacy enables.

Things are not as they appear.
