Is there something like arandr but allowing to manage all (or all useful) of the XRandR cababilities, matching what X.Org does expose and not being biased by assumptions about multi-monitor setups.

I miss these things in arandr:
• custom framebuffer size and panning
• defining and setting custom modes (some visualization would be cool)
• CVT calculation tool
• scaling and setting anti-aliasing filter (would be really useful when someone gives me random 4K display)
(• gamma and transform setting would be cool)
(• reconfiguring the windows to fit the framebuffer, with EWMH-compliant window manager support, would be cool, too)

I'm basically looking for something like xvidtune, but more modern/usable.

I would also
really appreciate also a slider for the pixel clock, as my cable has just a bad day and I have to turn it down a bit for one of the screens. #askfedi #xorg

Gnome X11 session on 26.04

Have searched and found conflicting info.. Can Gnome on 26.04 run as an X11 session? Or do I have to install/run XFCE or similar? Mainly need this to run NoMachine on a headless server. Thanks.

NeXTSpace

A wonderful project

NeXTSpace UI based on OpenStep GNUStep has been ported from Linux to BSD

NeXTSpace is modeled on NeXTSTEP a gorgeous UI on the NeXT Computing Workstation

As for wayland, I've never really used it cos it was almost always broken when I used to have a 10 series GPU, but I've read and heard things are moving in that direction and xorg is pretty much abandoned.

My 16 year old laptop doesn't like it though. I haven't used it in a while but last time I used it, it was laggy and some stuff didn't appear. I think I was trying out Fedora 42 or 43 live on that thing that time

I'm really troubled by the whole xlibre being included in Slackware thing.

I thought Slackware was all about what works and not changing things to the new fancy thing just because. I smell further motives and it makes me sad.

#DragonFlyBSD was candidate to take over an HP laptop, currently unused, from 2022.

But apart for the inevitable, additional complexity of dealing with #Xorg, vs macOS well integrated graphic subsystem I am accustomed to, just discovered WiFi 6 (aka 802.11ax) is currently not supported by drivers available for the OS.

To be honest I worked for years with WiFi 4 (aka 802.11n), even with Gigabit fiber available at home, without noticing. Perhaps lack of support for higher speed mode does not matter much until the existing iwx driver can work the Intel AX201 card. #OpenBSD supports it since OS v6.8 in 2020.

Why Not Yserver? It’s Xserver, But Rust-y.

If you’re not into Wayland as a display manager, it seems like your options are slowly dwindling. Xorg isn’t exactly a hotbed of activity, and the one fork everyone knows about is best …
