Just received a mailing from #AARP that our #UnitedHealthcare #Medigap monthly premium is rising 18% next month! This is a mid-year increase that we cannot opt out of.

I guess #UnitedHealth isn't making enough money these days.

“…Obamacare… would finally end discrimination against patients on the basis of pre-existing conditions. But for one vulnerable sector of the population, that discrimination never ended. Insurers are still able to deny coverage to some Americans with pre-existing conditions.

“In 46 states, however, #Medigap plans are allowed to engage in what’s called underwriting, or medical health screening, after seniors have already chosen a #MedicareAdvantage plan at age 65.”

The Medicare Advantage Trap

In 46 states, once you choose Medicare Advantage at 65, you can almost never leave.

The American Prospect

(Boost this post, or I'm going to haunt you after I'm dead. 👻)

Dear #fediverse, do your magic!

I learned today that I'm no longer on the secondary insurance that I was on with my ex-wife. (The government goes as fast as molasses.)

So I have a few choices:

* Remain on plain Medicare.

* Get Medicare Advantage, which I've heard multiple sources poopoo.

* Get Medigap. (I think I don't need to be on Medicare Advantage.)

I'm wondering what folk's experience has been making the choice I'm going to make.

I have to see multiple specialists periodically: oncologist, ophthalmologist, cardiologist, gastroenterologist, etc.

Do note that I plan to listen to your opinion, but I may decide on a plan that does not make sense to you. It is just that my particulars may not match yours. (For instance, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society pays my insurance premiums. It is not without limit, but it may make sense for me to have higher premiums if I can save elsewhere.)

Thanks.

(Oh, if you are an insurance company, tread lightly. I don't like people pushing products in my face. I'm not saying you *cannot* talk, just don't be an ass about it.)

#Medicare #MedicareAdvantage #Medigap #HealthInsurance #USHealthcare

Yeah, after stressing over this I decided to cancel the #Medigap #insurance because it'll be much cheaper to pay out of pocket for the specific eye treatment on an ad hoc basis every 2-3 months (instead of monthly).

As long as nothing else goes wrong with my health, plain #Medicare with my no-charge-to-me #prescription plan should be enough 🤞🏿

I don't know how I'm going to manage paying for the #Medigap #insurance I had to add to my #Medicare so I can continue getting an eye treatment, but based on my mom's constant battles to get even routine #medical tests and procedures approved under her Medicare "Advantage" plan, it seems worth the pain.

Probably need to go back to work part time just to afford "#retirement".

"#America, it's [not] a wonderful country!"

(the unchecked privilege of considering moving a viable option is...)

Now y'all just messin' with me 😤

Yes, I'm procrastinating on selecting this expensive #Medigap option I can't afford but need...

As I once again work through the maze of #Medicare, #PartD, and #Medigap, I repeat that anyone who promotes #MedicareForAll instead of full, comprehensive (#physical, #dental, #vision, #mental, #addiction, etc), free or very low cost #UniversalHealthcare has absolutely no understanding of the problem they believe they're addressing.

Medicare is a complete and utter nightmare which fails to address the underlying issues of cost and coverage that plague the #US for-profit #healthcare system.

I just finished enrolling in "regular" #Medicare and a #PartD #prescription plan.

Everyone touting #MedicareForAll as a cure for #healthcare #insurance problems here in the #US are small thinkers because #Medicare is a mess, incomplete, and a nightmare to navigate and decipher.

Do I need #Medigap? Does it make sense? Did I pick the right Part D plan?

It's literally all "pieces parts", and just as appealing.

#UniversalHealthcare or gtfo.

#Physical #Dental #Vision #Mental #Addiction etc.
