Oh, you're up early...
I walked to the wetland of Laajalahti in Espoo two days ago to see migratory birds that I don't usually get to see, like waders and various arctic geese. Well, the waders I had in mind had not arrived yet and I didn't get any decent bird photos either. I did see a mistle thrush and a yellowhammer though. There were also two white-tailed eagles squabbling over scraps of fish in the distance.
While I was on my way home through a forest, I spotted movement in the plant litter – a viviparous lizard. It's one of two lizard species endemic to Finland, the other one being a legless lizard (the eastern slow worm). I thought about following the lizard to get a better photo but, as bugs and warmth are in short supply in March, I felt it would have been somewhat unethical to do so. Maybe on a hot summer day...
