4/26/26 On April 22nd, a beautiful sunny Earth Day, climate justice, anti-racist, anti-war, and Palestine activists merged into one movement to say, “Stop War on Mother Earth!” They gathered at Hancock Drone AFB’s front gate, 6001 E. Molloy Rd., E. Syracuse, NY.
One hundred and twenty student and elder activists joined Upstate Drone Action, pushing back against Earth’s Greatest Enemy, the US military, the largest global polluter and driver of climate collapse, which poses a great threat to our precious planet. We are witnessing the destruction of Mother Earth and her people, driven by endless US-Israel wars, the latest in Iran, Lebanon, Gaza, Sudan, and US wars of dominance in the western hemisphere, devastating Venezuela, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Cuba. Activists gathered with banners saying, “Not in our name! No more war! No more drone killing!” Most cars and trucks passing the base honked in support of the crowd’s intersectional messages!
After using the educational tool of CNY screenings of Earth’s Greatest Enemy, Abby Martin’s film, which focuses on the US military’s massive global carbon footprint, not held to environmental account, CNY activists decided to act on Earth Day. People from the NY, NJ, PA region, university students, and others converged on East Syracuse at the local military base of MQ-9 killer drones, which have been responsible for the assassinations in Iraq, Afghanistan, & Pakistan, while today’s targets are cloaked in secrecy. These killing machines are used for military surveillance, for delivering Hellfire missiles and Thermobaric GB-39 bombs, the same weapon that evaporated nearly 3,000 people in one strike, in Gaza, and then in Beirut!
MQ-9’s are at the forefront of the US invasion of Venezuela and assassinations on Caribbean fishing boats. Timing is critical since the US-Israel illegal war on Iran has pushed the world to the verge of a global catastrophe. Judy Bello of the United National Antiwar Coalition said, “We are destroying our planet and killing our brothers and sisters for, for … a leadership run amok. Those of us in heart of empire need to take responsibility and come forward now.”
Members of Veterans for Peace, interfaith groups, Syracuse Peace Council, Catholic Workers, Ban Killer Drones, PSL chapters, Palestine Justice groups, Ithaca’s Downtown Berrigan Collective, SJP, many student groups and many others, young and old, brought intersectional messaging. The US military is Earth’s Greatest Enemy, driving the climate crisis. All creatures – the trees, the waters, the fish, the bears, the insects, the soils – all suffer under its weight.
