EarlyWebLinks Dotcom

I'm sharing a good old-fashioned Internet Directory. Actually curated by a real person who has selected websites written by real human people. 12000 site are in there, and no, they are not all neocities sites.

It's definitely worth a look to see what's in there. Who knows, you might find something interesting/original.

Excerpt: "A Brief History of #UrbanAgriculture

Growing food in cities isn’t entirely new! History shows humans have long found ways to cultivate sustenance within urban boundaries:

- Circa 3500 BC, #Mesopotamia: Archaeological evidence suggests early forms of #gardening occurred within city walls for food and medicinal purposes.
- Circa 2000 BC, Ancient #Persia: Development of sophisticated #qanat systems (underground #aqueducts) supported #UrbanGardens even in arid climates.
- #AncientEgypt: Records depict fruit trees and vines grown within temple complexes and affluent homes in cities like Thebes.
- Circa 1100 AD, #Aztec Civilization: The ingenious ‘#chinampas’ – artificial islands built in shallow lake beds around #Tenochtitlan – were highly productive agricultural plots effectively integrated with the urban center.
- Circa 1400s AD, #MachuPicchu: This #Inca citadel showcases remarkable terraced agriculture, adapting steep slopes for crop production within a high-altitude urban environment.
- More Recently: #VictoryGardens during World Wars I and II were widespread examples of urban food production driven by necessity."

"The USA in 1900 wasn’t a backwards country. In fact, it had one of the most advanced economies in the world. The Industrial Revolution might have started in Britain, but by the Great Exhibition in 1851 the British were amazed at the variety and quality of things being made in the USA. Even so, if people could do something themselves they generally did. They didn’t hesitate to take on big jobs, either – many turn of the century DIY projects were a lot more ambitious than putting up some new shelves in the den. In this book we’ll look at some typical projects our not so distant ancestors were familiar with, and which can still improve our lives today."

Les ressources marines

Découverte de nombreuses ressources marines sous-exploitées dont les algues

I've been looking for a brace with the bits for years. You can find both on eBay but then you're paying the rip-off price. 99.44% of the time at yard sales and antique stores, you only ever see the brace, never the bits.

12 bucks for this whole shebang at a yard sale today. 20 bits in all, including a countersink and twist drill.

Now I don't have to worry about buying a cordless drill that's mostly made of oil and relies on electricity. These last lifetimes.
