Vappu Rossi's style is quite literally pointillistic in her series of portraits. She's one of the artists that have been able to combine a gallery and a festival career, without going spectacular. One more hooray for subtlety and Ms. Rossi!

From the exhibition Näin pienessä kaupungissa sellainenkin riittää ihmeeksi (In such a small town, even that is enough to be a miracle) at Gallery Halmetoja 2024.

Finnish artist Kasper Muttonen deals with light and space, obviously, but also time and if light has it. Even though this is not the first artwork I see reflecting colours on the wall, I find something special in Muttonen's pieces. They're not spectacular even though they are colourful, but quite zen-like and serene. As seen in Forum Box gallery exhibition Light Has No Time in 2024.

"Where is My Land" by Runo Lagomarsino and Carla Zaccagnini presents a tradition in light art by playing with changing words. In this case, the sentence toggles between "Nowhere is my land" and "Anywhere is my land", answering to the question the title asks.

Seen at Nobel Week Lights, 2024.

Studio uXu's The Waterfall, seen in Nobel Week Lights 2024, has a tremendous advantage of the light coloured wall behind it. The reflecting soft glow takes away some of the drama compared to the artwork being in a black space, but brings serenity and beauty to it instead. And come on, there is enough drama in the world already!

Nobel Week Lights festival in Stockholm has a tradition of lighting the City Hall with projections, here's Leading Lights by Les Atelier BK from 2024. Large projections are expected to be fancy and colourful, but my favourite part of this piece was the simple ending statement, drawing the signatures of female Nobel Prize laureates onto the wall. Then again, white crispy lines of light will always have me.

Vertigo's The Wave is a good reminder that light art doesn't always need total darkness. This one has been a festival hit, also seen (by me) in Nobel Week Lights (here), in Copenhagen Light Festival and Lux Helsinki.

Jere Suontausta spends a lot of time gathering stuff from flea markets for materials for his artworks, mostly kitchen stuff. Here's a wonderful example from his Bloom series, seen at Blossom Point gallery this year.

Anna Broms's Vieras ilman massaa (A guest without mass) brings together elements of horror and fairy tales.

Maija Lavonen was one of the pioneers in Finnish light art scene. Originally a textile artist, known from her rugs, she started incorporating fibre optics in her weavings later in her career. With pretty awesome results. Seen at Hiljaisia monumentteja (Quiet Monuments) exhibition in Architecture & Design Museum in Helsinki, still on until September 14th.

I've seen Xevi Bayona and Alex Posada's Sfera in a Hungarian shopping mall and here in a church in Vilnius. Both temples, in a way.

Very vintage equipment combined with modern algorithms and generative stuff. I'm not sure, though, if it makes any difference that the content (probably meaning sound and light sequences) is generated in real time, compared to a recorded one. Anyway, a very beautiful piece!
