In the early morning, both the moon and the sun were visible at the same time. The sun was just rising as I flew over Kill Devil Hills – the site of the Wright brothers' work and the location of the first motor-powered flight (last image).

A runway length of only 3,000 feet at Billy Mitchell Airfield and crosswinds made the landing quite a challenge.

From Town of Kill Devil Hills on FB: 🚨Attention: Ocean overwash is now occuring in Kill Devil Hills 🚨

As expected, conditions have worsened with this evening’s high tide. Water has breached the dunes at multiple beach accesses in Kill Devil Hills and there is some standing water and sand along NC 12 (the Beach Road).

⚠️ Please use extreme caution when traveling along the Beach Road.

Remember: Floodwaters are extremely dangerous. Even shallow water can knock you off your feet or sweep a vehicle away. If you encounter a flooded street, turn around and do not attempt to drive through the water.

Yesterday while in the ocean having fun the typical beach sounds were interrupted by more sirens than I've heard in a long time. Found out a few hours later that it was a double shooting on the pier just down the beach from where we are staying.
