The discussion mentions the Northeast. We’re usually mentioned as mid-Atlantic states. Maryland to Massachusetts could be in play this afternoon and evening.

Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1250 AM CDT Tue Apr 14 2026

Valid 141200Z - 151200Z

There’s an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms across parts of the Midwest. There’s a slight risk of severe thunderstorms across the central to southern Plains and parts of the Northeast.

Severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon through tonight from the southern Plains to the Great Lakes. Large to very large hail, a few strong tornadoes, and damaging wind gusts will be possible, especially in eastern Iowa, northern Illinois, and southern Wisconsin. Additional severe storms, mainly producing strong wind gusts, will be possible in parts of the Northeast this afternoon.

Ahoy. Our NWS Wakefield writes:

National Weather Service Wakefield, VA
644 AM EDT, Tue Apr 14, 2026

No significant changes to the forecast.

Key messages:

1) Record to near-record high temperatures are expected from today through Thursday.

2) Continued dry weather with fire weather concerns expected for much of the week.

3) Well above normal temperatures and mostly dry weather continue through Saturday. A stronger cold front brings a chance for showers on Sunday, but it’s unlikely to be widespread. Many areas will likely see less than 0.10 inches of rain.
