I don't remember if I mentioned this, but one thing that @citynerd doesn't take into account here is that, the more travel lanes you add to a road, the less effective capacity you are actually adding, because of the amount of time needed to traverse the lanes to get on and off the road or make turns.
So, even if you could build a 30-lane wide Lexington Avenue, it might take you 30 blocks to get from Lane 30 to Lane 1 to make a turn. #urbanism #JustOneMoreLane #BanCars
