Haaretz publisher called for sanctions against Israeli leaders who oppose the establishment of a Palestinian state, describing the policies in the West Bank and Gaza as an “apartheid regime.”

Speaking at the Haaretz Conference in London on Sunday, Amos Schocken said: “The only recourse with such a disastrous government is to ask other countries to bring pressure to bear, as they did in order to end apartheid in South Africa.”

Israel’s Interior Ministry has since suspended ties with Haaretz following the speech.
