Le frasi di Erri De Luca su Israele non devono proprio essere piaciute alla sinistra e a quel mondo letterario, culturale, cinematografico che in questi giorni si è speso tanto per additarlo, condannarlo e infine stigmatizzarlo per essere uscito dal recinto ideologico del supporto alla Palestina. Al quotidiano israeliano, l'ex Lotta Continua aveva infatti detto: "Chiunque riconosca il diritto di Israele a esistere qui, chiunque veda due entità vivere fianco a fianco, è già sionista per questo fatto stesso. In Europa ci sono molte persone che la pensano così ma hanno paura della loro stessa ombra. Non sanno di essere sionisti. Io lo dico ad alta voce, e non mi importa del prezzo'.
De Luca, con queste parole, ha rotto dunque un tabù che pesa molto in certi ambienti. È proprio per questo che, a pochi giorni di distanza, è arrivata la notizia della sua esclusione dalla prolusione che avrebbe dovuto tenere al Festival Salerno Letteratura (in programma dal 13 al 20 giugno). Questo per incompatibilità con la "identità di vedute" di chi commissiona la prolusione. "Per questo abbiamo preferito riconsiderare la nostra decisione originaria, anche per evitare strumentalizzazioni. Non c'è nessuna censura: De Luca era invitato comunque, seppure in altra sezione, ma ha preferito declinare" ha detto il condirettore artistico della manifestazione, Gennaro Carillo.
Quella parte culturale che parla sempre di libertà, pluralismo, democrazia, finita a censurare un'idea solo perché diversa da quella pro-pal che si dimostra essere sempre più nucleo di un'intolleranza che emargina, chiude e allontana.

Erri De Luca’s statements about Israel clearly didn’t sit well with the left and that literary, cultural, and cinematic world that has spent so much time lately pointing fingers at, condemning, and ultimately stigmatizing it for having exited the ideological enclosure of support for Palestine. The former member of Lotta Continua told the Israeli newspaper: “Anyone who recognizes the right of Israel to exist here, anyone who sees two entities living side by side, is already Zionist simply by virtue of that fact. There are many people in Europe who think this way, but they are afraid of their own shadow. They don't know they are Zionists. I say it out loud, and I don't care about the price.'"

De Luca, with these words, thus broke a taboo that weighs heavily in certain circles. It’s precisely for this reason that, just a few days later, the news of his exclusion from the speech he was to deliver at the Salerno Literature Festival (scheduled from June 13 to 20) arrived. This was due to incompatibility with the “shared viewpoint” of those commissioning the speech. “For this reason, we preferred to reconsider our original decision, even to avoid instrumentalization. There is no censorship: De Luca was still invited, albeit in another section, but he preferred to decline,” said Gennaro Carillo, the artistic director of the event.

That cultural segment that always talks about freedom, pluralism, democracy, ended up censoring an idea simply because it was different from the pro-Palestine one, which is becoming increasingly the core of an intolerance that marginalizes, excludes, and distances.
