Technically not an #intro post, because I already posted one last year. But I wanted to try a slightly new format that I noticed other folks were using, so here is my new #introduction.

• Neuro: HSP and 2 undiagnosed disorders. Ask if curious.

• Heritage: bipoc, black (Belizean Creole)

• Who: Hobbyist cosplayer. Crafter. Character artist. Fashion design student (for now  ).

🧵 Welcome! It's common for people to do an #IntroductionToot, hashtagged #NewHere (but not required). Tweets here are called "toots" (because of the sound a Mastodon might make with his trunk).

Follow accounts you enjoy. There's no algorithm here artificially pushing things into your feed-- or you into theirs-- so your best way to prune your feed and to be seen by others is to follow people and use hashtags.

Avoid irrelevant, trending hashtags. These only irritate people.

Make sure to use #AltText whenever possible. There are visually impaired folks here, and accounts who will not RT anything without AltText.

You can EDIT your posts and follow hashtags here! 🥳🎉

Not many folks will RT links to #Xitter. Avoid them for better responses.

Accounts that end in "a.gup.pe" are groups & have "guppy" avatars.

Make sure to follow @FediTips and @[email protected] for tech support and great advice.

Unlike the commercial platforms, there is no algorithm here pushing things into your feed (including trolls & bots). So what you see is 100% based on:

* who you follow
* what you RT
* what hashtags you use and follow

(Yes, you can follow hashtags here!)

It's customary to post an #IntroductionToot using that hashtag. Tell a bit about yourself & your interests. (You can hashtag keywords for better visibility to other accounts.)

It can take a while to build a following, but your feed will be more positive than on other platforms, with NO ads.

* Posts here are called "toots" (because the logo is a Mastodon)

* Always add #AltText to images

* Accounts that end in "a.gup.pe" are groups

#Welcome! There are lots of folks here to build a new community.

I always recommend following @feditips and @[email protected] to discover all kinds of great things you can do in #Mastodon.

You will get more traffic if you follow accounts that you enjoy and if you use hashtags.

Hashtags are powerful here. Because there's no algorithm here shoving trolls and ads in your feed, the best way to get your toots noticed by others is to use hashtags.

You can even follow hashtags.

And you can edit posts! You might want to edit your toot to include hashtags like:
