Rami Abou Jamra from the University Leipzig will talk about "Genome sequencing for rare disease diagnostics: uncovering hidden causal variants" at the GHGA lecture series "Advances in Data-Driven Biomedicine" on May 21, 2025.
"Using whole-genome resequencing data from 174 individuals" ...
Having done a PhD in the early 2000s, the above will not ever stop sounding like science fiction. Amazing.

(3/4) NSW COVID-19 Whole Genome Sequencing: Week ending 4 May 2024
🔹KP.2, KP.3 and KW.1.1 are sub-lineages of JN.1. We have reported on these sub-lineages separately from the JN.1 group this week because of their increasing prevalence. Emergence of COVID-19 variants has been associated with new waves of COVID-19 infections, so we continue to closely monitor these trends
Wow, yet a new revolution in #genomesequencing underway:
looks like genome reads are doable more or less in real-time with handheld devices - crazy!
Oxford nanopore sequencing -

Oxford Nanopore Technologies has developed nanopore-based DNA and RNA sequencing technology designed to provide on-demand biological information, to any person, in any environment. Protein nanopores are tiny holes, that in nature form gateways across membranes. In our technology, protein nanopores are embedded into a synthetic membrane bathed in an electrophysiological solution and an ionic current is passed through the nanopores. As molecules such as DNA or RNA move through the nanopores, they cause disruption in the current. This signal can be analysed in real-time to determine the sequence of bases in the strands of DNA or RNA passing through the pore. Find out more: https://nanoporetech.com/how-it-works
(3/4) NSW COVID-19 Whole Genome Sequencing: Week ending 27 April 2024
