Huh, I can't quoot my own comments from my blog. That's interesting, since posts are fine.
I might want to look into that, too.
Anyway, here's why FRS radios are good at protests:

Thoughts on Retevis license free HTs (FRS)? Helping a favorite local place upgrade their radio situation, and saw the MateTalk B4. AI noise cancelling supposed to have been trained on 100k samples. $140 for a six-pack with a charging station.
I have a pair arriving tomorrow to check out - does anyone out there have prior exposure to this model? Is the advertising realistic?
Gonna find out soon enough, but if you've heard them.. let's me know what you think 🤔
My old #FRS radios still work. The Motorola Talkabout FRS radio was first sold in 1997, but I bought my pair around the year 2004. It's like #AmateurRadio except it requires no license. I gave one of our cats an opportunity to say something over the radio, but he was too busy eating.
Sending data over free radio waves with no license.
Digital modes are allowed over #FRS radio (as of 2017), without an #AmateurRadio license. Here is a test I performed, using #fldigi to decode the data.

#FRS has the advantage of being free to use without a license. I never felt compelled to get GMRS, since I already have an #AmateurRadio license I could use if I wanted more power.
So, why did you consider #GMRS worth the additional effort?
After seeing the videos of #Japanese #radio enthusiasts using low-power radios to hopscotch a message for the funz, I have the urge to do something similar. Message passing via #FRS. Looks like #Canada uses the same frequency list for their "public #UHF FM radio service" as well... And Mexico... And Brazil... and "most South American Countries."
Man, that's a lot of North-South potential space to cover with passed messages
Human-relay of messages via #lowPower UHF #walkietalkies
I have brought up ideas like this for emergencies for communal information exchange, and people often go down the "just do X" route... And, look, not everyone is getting a #hamRadio license. Not everyone is getting GMRS. EVERYONE has an #FRS radio in a drawer someplace. The infrastructure is there, people CAN self-organize

#PSA:
A good chunk of the #northeast US is about to get up to two feet of #snow over the weekend. Please make sure you know where your #furnace vents are and they stay clear.
Please be aware of symptoms of #carbonmonoxide poisoning. Keep your phones and batteries charged, and if you're more remote, have more than one way to contact #emergencyservices or other friends/family/neighbors (such as #frs or #lora #meshtastic radios) if needed.
Thank you.
