I don’t allow pork in my house but we do allow for Ham, Ham Radio that is

So yes, I will absolutely be recommending an antenna swap. We flashed it on stream, I’m testing it now, and I’ll be covering that in upcoming content and likely in a YouTube video as part of my DEFCON prep. #meshtastic #radio #amateurradio

This one fixes a lot of that: 2400mAh battery instead of 850mAh, plus a built-in carabiner clip for my backpack. I also tested the stock antenna and the SWR was bad, over 3. Luckily the yellow antenna I planned to use instead tested at 1.2. #meshtastic #radio #amateurradio

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ“‘ WHEN GOVERNMENTS PULL THE PLUG β€” HAM RADIO PICKS UP THE MIC.
On March 16th, 2026, Canada permanently shut down Weatheradio Canada. 186 transmitter sites. 50 years of service. Gone overnight. Their replacement? A smartphone app.
But here’s the hard truth that no government app can fix.
When a tornado touches down in rural Manitoba β€” cell towers fail. When floodwaters sweep through Saskatchewan β€” power grids collapse. When wildfires cut off northern communities β€” the internet disappears. And in that exact moment of crisis, the WeatherCAN app becomes a useless black screen.
This is precisely where amateur radio operators step in.
Canadian hams are already organizing severe weather watching networks using IRLP β€” linking repeaters and stations across entire provinces to relay real-time storm information when every commercial system goes dark. No towers needed. No internet required. No subscription. No outage.
Just trained operators, reliable equipment, and an unwavering commitment to keeping communities informed and alive.
Radio Amateurs of Canada called this closure a serious public safety concern. We agree. Because history proves it every single time β€” hurricanes, floods, wildfires, earthquakes β€” ham radio operators are ALWAYS the last ones standing when infrastructure collapses.
When the grid fails β€” we don’t.

Say hello to my new Meshtastic node and possibly my new EDC companion alongside my TID Radio H9: the LilyGo T-Echo Plus. I loved my T-Deck, but the battery barely made it a day, and my old T-Echo was just annoying to EDC. #meshtastic #radio #amateurradio
