[Reluctance is] also an electrical engineering term
😋 Since you are the #epigraphcoffeeclub person, I'd thought I'd share that thinking about your wonderful #epigraph posts and answering #pennedpossibilities 548 inspired me to write a novel opener epigraph that heightens the mystery. I'm rather pleased with it and may start all of the novella and larger works with it. So thank you @klepsydra and @floofpaldi

"Identity would seem to be the garment with which one covers the nakedness of the self: in which case, it is best that the garment be loose, a little like the robes of the desert, through which one's nakedness can always be felt, and, sometimes, discerned. This trust in one's nakedness is all that gives one the power to change one's robes."

My favourite #epigraph this year:
'As to the action which is about to begin, it takes place in Poland - that is to say, nowhere'
- Alfred Jarry Ubu Roi
"Wszystko mija, nawet najdluższa żmija ('Everything passes, even the longest of vipers")
- Stanistaw Jerzy Lec Unkempt Thoughts
-The opening quotes to *Swimming In The Dark* by Tomasz Jedrowski.
Ominous.
@book
I think it's an "epigraph".
And having browsed the web I'm sure it is!

They can be at the beginning of books and even at the beginning of chapters. And it's not a new thing - I recently re-read Watership Down and every chapter has an epigraph. Not to mention poems, like T S Eliot's The Waste Land - epigraphs in Latin and Greek!
