Freedom of the seas T-shirt

This is the second Scientist and Philosopher T-shirt in the Freedom of the seas – Protect our oceans series (design V2B). It is printed on an organic cotton T-shirt so hopefully lighter environmental loading than many other materials.

The seas and oceans of the world are suffering in so many ways. There’s plastic pollution and acidification. They have absorbed the majority of the heat caused by burning fossil fuels and are filled with various forms of our industrial waste. Our ships make the world beneath the waves incredibly noisy. They also kill creatures such as whales directly. All the waters are over fished subsidised with fossil fuels and some of the catch fed to herbivore farm animals. We humans have and are continuing to completely mess up this part of our small planet.

Extreme weather events are accelerating tidal wetland loss, satellite data show

Tidal #wetlands are critical, yet vulnerable #ecosystems. Tidal marshes, mangrove forests, and tidal flats support #biodiversity, protect against #flooding and storm surges, sequester #carbon, and improve #water quality. Due to human development and #ClimateChange, tidal wetland areas have been shrinking globally. A new study using 40 years of satellite data shows that this loss has been accelerating in the U.S. and that this acceleration is being increasingly driven by #ExtremeWeather events.
