I used to be one of those people who'd hate on electric stoves saying gas is much better, but once I was forced to use it it really didn't matter much. Now back to gas because my new house came with it, and it's really all the same for most food.

Well, #today I learned (#Dutch) #pancakes are an exception. I haven't had pancakes this good in years! I have no clue why, while other exceptions are obvious (like wok). But it is.

This is the “forest gnome” from Van Gogh’s Eeterie: a Dutch baby pancake topped with walnuts, roasted apples, mushrooms, honey, and arugula. Earthy and sweet, and what a beautiful fluffy pancake 🥰

And “golden melk”: steamed almond milk, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, and agave.
It was warm and spicy, and went extremely well with the toppings on the Dutch baby.

@kelbot something tells me these #DutchPancakes have their origin more in #German than #Dutch cuisine, and has something to do with conflation of #Deutsch (German for 'German') with 'Dutch' (English for 'Nederlands', i.e. the language spoken in the Netherlands), probably due to their shared origin.

(#PennsylvaniaDutch for example are of German origin rather than Dutch)

That probably explains why your pancakes looked so unfamiliar to me. :)
