@lonseidman There’s #Clevo who builds a full line-up of models with these specifications - matter of fact, my current computer is a NJ70MU, 11-gen Intel, VGA, DVD, DDR4, PCI-E 4.0, 17” display + upgradability/repairability like no other brand on the whole computer hardware business except for #Framework
Looking for a replacement #battery for a #Clevo P670 #laptop. The original one has a capacity of 60Wh or 4000mAh. I have found compatible ones with 60Wh under 50€, but one with greater capacity would be perfect. #FediHelp #TechSupport

“Why are you heavily set against Clevo” — in regards to linux laptops.
Well, the main issue is that Clevo is primarily Taiwanese and while many in the US like to think that Taiwan is wholly independent and hates the CCP, it’s not. The CCP has effective agents, everywhere (they aren’t very good but that’s a different discussion). If you were at war today, the best place to have that battle is in embedded chips and controllers. Porn, gambling, email, etc that sort of thing is small potatoes.
The real win is simply in having control over devices. A lot of Clevo related gear isn’t manufactured with longevity in mind, and I don’t want to just pick on Clevo, there are other Taiwanese companies that over the last decade or two have been peddling designs that just fall apart. Marketed and planned obsolescene.
I say all of this typing on a Mac. Not because I think Apple is inherently focused on this issue from that angle, but the opposite. Due to the focus on design, performance and total control the products they produce have an immense longevity (hardware wise) in comparison to let’s say OEM Manufacturers like Dell or Lenovo. This isn’t debatable, it’s also likely why Apple decided to design their own chipset.
Anyway building a laptop or PC or device in 2024 that is quality and has longevity is an extremely difficult proposition. Even if you’re stupidly rich. It’s not impossible of course but you’d need a dedicated team to design, implement and then build from the ground up which would mean control over fabs and every bit of hardware and then controlling the software stack. Essentially you’d be doing what Apple is doing. To do this at scale, with high-quality and at a cost the customer could afford would be even more difficult. You could beat Apple in the hardware space for a bit (it’s not like they can’t be beat) but the product would be cost prohibitive in comparison. It’s a losing proposition unless you’re only making a very small number of devices for a targeted market which is why there is opportunity here for companies like Framework but the quality has to be exceptional and they’ll need to raise prices to reflect that quality IMHO. #clevo #linuxlaptop #apple #FrameworkLaptop
