@dianea This is my nerd snipe trigger, so get ready for some cheetah info (but I'll keep it brief because I'm doing home server stuff today) (and also this isn't aimed at you in particular, but there's misinformation and a strange attitude online about cheetahs that I want to help combat, so some of these things need saying now and then!).

Cheetahs aren't all that aggressive! Since they need to run at such high speeds to catch prey and survive, they can't afford any injuries. It's a bit like a horse - a broken leg is a death sentence. They don't see humans as prey, and typically raising your arms and making noise is enough to get them to back off. A human with a stick can cause some serious injuries, even if the human loses the fight! They avoid confrontation so heavily that other carnivores will often steal their kills, and the cheetahs won't do anything about it. They're also just generally pretty chill. With a lower pounce drive than other cats of their size, their human handlers in reserves and outreach programs can get a lot of personal time with the cats. There's even a youtube channel where one guy shows his work with the animals, and he'll actually go out and sleep in their pen for snuggles. It's adorable.

That said, the internet has seen information like that and started saying humans should adopt cheetahs as pets. No! Bad idea! They are endangered and need the help of professional wildlife conservationists to survive. Plus, the black pet market is one of the biggest threats they face right now. We should love them! They're very good animals! But loving them means doing what's right for them and giving them space to thrive in their natural habitats.
