Been playing a lot of Quake3/OpenArena this weekend. Well, that and other arena shooters, bouncing between them depending on mood and availability of multiplayer servers. Surprisingly, OA does have a lot of activity and I can usually find at least one server with people. Even if it's mostly the same 10-20 players, there's always someone on, and they're actually pretty welcoming. In fact, this showed me I am not actually that bad at arena shooters, I can sometimes even be top 3 in the server (but not win, those guys are really good)
I really want to play more UT2k4 but I seriously cannot get much play online of unmodded deathmatch servers. It's mostly the big modes with vehicles or freeze tag arena. UT'99 always has more people playing.
Also I gotta figure out a set of keybinds to switch weapons rapidly, now that I got used to the Quake setup of Q/E/R for rocket/lightning/rail I need something similar on other arena shooters.
Oh yeah, Xonotic is actually really fun when played with actual players too. It gets stupidly fast. But it often has less players than the other ones I mentioned.
