* While landed, ship doors open and close based on player proximity.
* You can launch and dismiss your primary ship from space and take the Nomad down to the surface if you want, or travel from the surface to a ring.
* It *doesn't* look like you can dock the Nomad at a pad, it behaves like a ship launched fighter.

Frontier have done it - the first ship interior is coming to #EliteDangerous in the Nomad!
You can also dismiss your primary ship after launching the Nomad, and it comes with an integrated biological scanner so you don't need to disembark to pulse for samples to scan.
In a further update today, they also announced they will release an update to allow it to be launched not just from the 3 new ships announced, but also from all ships that already carry fighters.
