I tried #Frigate today & OMG it is so much easier to configure than #Shinobi. I even connected it to #HomeAssistant! So I removed Shinobi from my server & will move forward with frigate as my #NVR.

Now I just need to return the #Amcrest cam that misleadingly advertises #ONVIF support but really only means partially, in its own app. #Reolink #P1Zoom will probably be my next trial since I confirmed it is ONVIF profile T verified.

I know thatโ€™s gibberish to most. It was to me 3 weeks ago. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Discovered the #ONVIF conformant list today, and #Amcrest isn't on it. That's probably why I can't get my ONVIF cam to integrate into #Shinobi, because Amcrest's claims to be ONVIF conformant are not certified. ๐Ÿ™„
#Reolink and #TPLink are on there, though ๐Ÿ‘€

ONVIF

So the #Amcrest IP2M-841 cam is viewable/recordable through Shinobi โœ…

However, neither the PTZ controls nor audio are exposed over #RTSP ๐Ÿ™„

So I have a stationary cam with no audio. Thatโ€™sโ€ฆ fine, I guess. ๐Ÿ˜’

Nothing makes you feel more stupid than trying to get #Shinobi to recognize PTZ GET commands to control your #Amcrest cam.

#FML.

#Amcrest IP2-841 cam went straight into #Shinobi w/ the main RTSP stream, so thatโ€™s good. Just need to spend some time figuring out how to setup ONVIF and access PTZ controls.

Figuring out the file saving will probably be a project for another day.

So... the #Amcrest #security cam I bought to tinker with only exposes the substream to #RTSP, not the main live stream. #Shinobi says the "substream is an on-demand method of viewing the live stream", meaning it can't record/monitor the feed unless I leave the feed open in a browser 24/7.

How in the ever living fuck would I know that ahead of time?

Bought a cheap #Amcrest #RTSP cam to trial on #Shinobi. I can open the rtsp stream in #VLCplayer, but I must be configuring something wrong in Shinobi because it just shows me a black screen ๐Ÿค”

Guess Iโ€™m troubleshooting tomorrow.
#security

Also I know way too many network IP addresses by heart now ๐Ÿ˜…

In case anyone was wondering, you can get #Amcrest Surveilance Pro to run just fine in #Bottles in #Linux, you'll just need to switch the render device to #Vulkan instead of the default #GL.

Fuuuuck that. I was already looking for a way out because of #FuckAmazon #FuckBezos #BoycottBezos & because #Ring is DOUBLING its service fee, but this is the nail in the coffin.

Any recs for privacy-focused #security cams/systems? Was eyeing maybe some #Amcrest cams w/ local #NVR & #Shinobi but def not set on anything yet. Solar is a plus. Out of the box would be great but I know that often comes with a sacrifice to #privacy.

#FrigateNVR is officially up and running on my home network! I started with a single AMCREST Turret Camera to test things out, and for just $60, itโ€™s performing surprisingly well.

Next steps? Adding three more cameras around the house for full coverage. Iโ€™m also considering testing out their doorbell camera to see if it supports RTSP as it would be a great addition to the setup and will allow me to add it to Frigate as well.

I also need to invest in the Google Coral TPU to help take the detection load off the CPU of the HP Mini I am running this setup on.

Loving how this is shaping up so far.
