👩🔬Unsere Physikerin der Woche ist Dr. Ramona Augustin! Ramona ist Postdoktorandin am Leibniz-Institut für Astrophysik Potsdam (AIP). Sie beschäftigt sich mit der Erforschung des Gasreservoirs, das Galaxien umgibt und als zirkumgalaktisches Medium (CGM) bekannt ist.

„A Strong ERC for a Leading Europe“: Anfang März diskutierten in Brüssel Spitzenvertreter:innen der deutschen & europäischen Wissenschaft & Politik über Maßnahmen zur Stärkung des #ERC und Vernetzung der europäischen #Forschung & #Wissenschaft im weltweiten Wettbewerb. Dabei stellten @dfg_public, HRK & @WissRat ihre Idee für ein neues Förderkonzept #Nexus vor. Dieses soll die thematische Zusammenarbeit von in einem Forschungsfeld profilierten #Hochschulen & #Forschungseinrichtungen stärken.

👩🔬Unsere Physikerin der Woche ist M. Sc. Sarah Bartha! Ihre Arbeit in der Raumfahrtindustrie führte sie vom Dschungel Südamerikas, wo sie den Start der ESA-Raumsonde JUICE unterstützte, zu ihrer aktuellen Position als Ingenieurin bei Airbus Defence and Space in Immenstaad, wo sie an der Architektur der nächsten Generation von Erdbeobachtungsmissionen mitwirkt.

Most people in brightly lit countries probably take for granted that clouds are bright at night, but this is completely unnatural. You can see it better in this pair of photos we published in a later paper (titled "Red is the new black"): https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1365-2966.2012.21559.x

This probably matters a great deal for nocturnal animals, because it's a reversal of an environmental condition that existed during the hundreds of millions of years that life evolved.

Mastodon.social has no advantages over any other Mastodon server. It has no special status or privileges, it uses exactly the same software as other Mastodon servers.
