Gods, I hate using that word about us.
But, here we are. They're calling for it openly now. Which means it's a bit late for this advice, but better late than never.
Get to know your local trans groups. Get into them. Make the point that you want as many committed allies as possible, so look for links to Black Lives Matter, Black Panthers, antifa groups, abortion clinic protectors, people who are used to putting their bodies on the line for their beliefs. Be creative.
Get tight with them, so you have unexpected numbers and allies the fash won't know about yet. Support their struggle as they support yours. You're working for your life, now, time to put aside your lingering racism or misogynoir or "abortion is icky" feelings. Your liberation is intimately tied to theirs.
Chains of movement will set up, helping move people to the Canadian and Mexican borders. These chains will form more easily, the more groups we can involve in the struggle.
Canadians and Mexicans, it's our time to step up. We need to be arranging a set of crash pads for people, places to stay while their asylum claims are adjudicated, or where they can ride out the storm in safety. We need to be arranging transport for people arriving at the border or at airports, and getting them to a safe space.
I'm not kidding. I'm not being hyperbolic. These are practical important things we will need to be doing in the next few years. Start now. Today. Reach out to that trans group who've always seemed too radical before. They're who you need now.
If there are no trans groups in your area, what are you waiting for? Start one. Ask for help from other activist groups on getting the word out to build membership.
This isn't a drill anymore. It's time to get organizing and prepare. Sensibly. You're not going to fight off the US government. Be ready to run. Pack a go bag. Your life is the most important thing you have. Don't throw it away.
Good luck.
