I have a work-related question (or comment??), which I can easily put here as opposed to LinkedIn.
I'm working on an EDIB project, where I look through an educational product, commenting on various strands of EDIB, and one strand is on #GenderIdentity.
The criteria I must score against loosely mentions that the product includes a variety of gender identities beyond the binary.
Now, this product is not aimed at secondary students or above, so there's little chance to get into readings about people; a lot of it is image-based.
My issue with this is – we cannot (and should not) base gender identity on someone's appearance, because then we get into harmful stereotypes. Why should an androgynous-looking person be only classified as non-binary?
Surely there's no right or wrong way of presenting oneself – just like being a gay man, a trans woman or a lesbian (for example); there's not one way of being.
Possibly the only way to do this would be to be explicit rather than having to rely on appearance.
In a similar way to representing neurodivergence – not every neurodivergent person is going to wear noise-cancelling headphones or use a particular fidget toy, so again, we can't rely on appearance.
Any thoughts?
#introduction
One thing I really like about the fediverse is that one can have multiple accounts to have a focus on which aspects one want to communicate about oneself. So this is not my first account in the fediverse. But this time I want it to be one that is a bit more personal that might connect to my outside of fediverse life.
In key words i am cliche of a fediverse user. I work in IT i like to use #rustlang and to some extend #nix/ #lix.
I am enjoying my #hrt. But unlike the cliche of that demographic I have my difficulties with #genderidentity.
I think that #antisemitism is a real problem. So #AgainstAllAntisemitism.
Oh and i am interested in #marxist economics and stuff like that.
I also have a history of making music and writing about it.
And i hate romanizations of family relations: #abolishfamily
And last but not least I lived for some Years in #Taiwan, and appreciated their rational use of masks to protect oneself and others.

Majority of trans people avoid going to GP over transphobia fears
Pink News article on recent TransActual report:
“Ninety-seven per cent of the trans UK public reported dealing with GPs that have little or no knowledge on trans issues, while nearly three quarters have reported avoiding their GP over fears of discrimination.
Of those who had faced issues with their GPs, 60 per cent had been refused non-transition related care because of their gender identity.”
Yes (i.e. my experience too) to all three.
