This holiday season, break the ice by telling your family and friends how baby octopuses sometimes ride on jellyfish like little hats.

Reminder that #MLCB2022 is virtual today (and tomorrow) 9-5 PST, lots of great talks, posters, an industry panel and keynotes from
@akundaje, Smita Krishnaswamy & Mohammed AlQuraishi. Registration is closed but we'll be sharing a yt feed!
This site makes me feel guilty about the fact I didn’t let mastodons on the Ark.

Excited to share that our study on how cell-cell affinity between two cell lineages locally controls cell shapes and globally drives self-organization of an entire tissue is out now in Nature Communications.

Eya-controlled affinity between cell lineages drives tissue self-organization during Drosophila oogenesis - Nature Communications

Oogenesis depends on close interaction between germ cells and the surrounding somatic niche. Here the authors demonstrate that Eya controls bilateral affinity at the germline-soma interface to generate self-organizing inter-lineage units that ensure oocyte maturation.

An #introduction to eLife's new Mastodon page!

We're an #OpenAccess not-for-profit journal that publishes and reviews #research in the life and biomedical sciences.

We want to improve the way research is practised and shared in part by working with early-career researchers #ECR and supporting #OpenSource technology.

We also just announced our new publishing model that we hope will tackle an overreliance on journal titles and publishing decisions as quality measures for science and scientists.

“The disproportionate scientific productivity of elite researchers can be largely explained by their substantial labor advantage rather than inherent differences in talent.” #AcademicMastodon #ScienceMastodon https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.abq7056

Hi, #ScienceMastodon! It's time for an #introduction. 👋

I'm a PhD candidate in the Tolić lab where I study cell division & aneuploidy using STED, LLS & confocal #microscopy. 🧬🔬

Here's a video of the cell with marked chromosomes and tubulin going through mitosis. Chromosomes are colored for depth.
