Building Your Own X-Ray Detector Screen

Fluoroscopy is probably the best-known method of X-ray imaging: an X-ray beam passes through the subject to be imaged, and the transmitted X-rays illuminate a phosphor screen. Dense objects, such a…

UV Mint (RAW) - III.

The last one in this series. A recap: I've taken a UV shot, almost RAW and not edited, and I've applied a specific technique that I usually use on JPEG files to adjust the white balance. Now, in this shot, I've doubled the effect.
Just to give some background (for PS nerds and users): I usually use either the "Curves" or "Levels" command to adjust the white balance, by using the gray eyedropper tool in these tools and clicking at a specific point in the image (specifying that point is another story for another time). Typically, there is no difference between the two tools (Curves and Levels) when this is done but it happens that there are subtle differences now and then. In this image, I've applied the Curves first, and then from the same point I've also applied the Levels effect.
Now, I really call this "fluorescence image". It makes me feel as the alien in Predator! I do this more often!

@sflorg #multimodalimaging to #map the detailed anatomy of animals, such as a #seasquirt lead to new insights and discoveries. #Fluorescence is an aspect that can recently be discovered also even in tetrapods, where it was formerly not expected, as for example in the fire salamander.
Making me think that there is indeed nothing that we have fully understood. New #questions arise with new available technologies, good for the future of natural scientists.

Modern #imagingtechnologies allow more #fluorescence insights in #vertebrates. B. Burriel-Carranza et al. (2026) show that the #granularglands and #epidermis of the #firesalamander produce different #fluorophores, and that such compounds also circulate via the #bloodstream. Fluorescence may have a #communicative function.
