Oh yeah, I'm about to enter a new era of CD ripping capabilities!

This is an Aleratech AutoPublisher LS, a disc robot meant for duplicating disks. It is just a USB serial device though that takes commands to control it. This was done as a test with the original software in an XP VM.

I need to figure out how to snoop the serial commands to control it myself for ripping. I'm open to recommendations on that because I'm not sure since it connects as USB.

Back in the 90s, a magazine series called "Bestseller Games" was super popular in Germany. They were always very cheap and included full versions of classic DOS games on CD-ROM. As it turned out, some of these games remained highly sought-after for years, so some of the issues went through a re-release. One could easily distinguish between the releases, because only the original CDs were printed in full colour.

Today I found out, at least one of these issues actually received a third release, in which they made another set of design changes to the CD-ROM and updated its content. The game was, not surprisingly, "The Secret of Monkey Island". Bestseller Games, Vol. 2.
