Why modern German citizenship is more than a bundle of rights

Citizenship is a contested and multifaceted concept. Yet despite their differences, all German citizens see citizenship as something more than just a legal status. Franziska Maier finds that common to all German citizens is a desire for connectivity

The Loop

👀Potential progress of the German gov on #citizenship reform, as promised in coalition agreement.
👍lower residency requirement and broader ius soli seems main goal; important but will essentially bring Germany up to speed on EU standards
✍️no language requirement for >67: is nice but immigrants this age hardly #naturalize anymore anyways
⚡️dual citizenship: huge! But likely highly politicized discussion ahead- strong opposition is likely

@politicalscience

Germany plans to relax citizenship rules, report says

The government reportedly wants to speed up the naturalization process to make it easier for migrants to become German citizens. Easier dual citizenship is also on the cards.

Welcome, latest Twitter migrants!
Here's what I've learned after three weeks in the Fediverse:

✷ Follow lots of accounts & hashtags, there is no algo to select content for you!
✷ Use hashtags liberally to connect beyond your immediate bubble
✷ Metatext is a great Mastodon mobile app
✷ Use Content warnings (CW) liberally - think of them as subject lines
✷ Mute/block vigorously (no different to the birdsite)
✷ Be respectful
✷ Enjoy the calm 😌

Question on #teaching for #academicmastodon 👩‍🏫 I have a great but relatively large seminar on #democracy this semester and find myself uncertain of how to make it an enjoyable learning experience for everyone (different levels of activity, interests etc.)

Any ideas for managing this well or taking students' temperatures on it? 💡
