🚰, DevOp, biker, skier, sailor, and YIMBY (not necessarily in that order). Lets build some housing! Pretty much any pronoun, but usually he/him.

Read this article— some rare blunt honesty about choosing all the suburban “advantages,”including the fact that it’s heavily subsidized by the rest of us, and then complaining about the amount of traffic in your commute into the city. It may sound snarky, but it’s also true. “You know what the suburbs aren’t, though? Close to downtown.”

TFW you realize you have been bike commuting long enough that you wore out the housing on your bike pump.
(It lasted like 15 years of year-round use so I think I got my money’s worth)

This platform—#Mastodon—still lacks what I liked about Twitter all these years: enlarging my horizon beyond the usual suspects:

Follow a politician from Malaysia and a journalist from Zimbabwe alongside the IMF Managing Director. Learn about an earthquake in Mongolia from someone on the ground after a comment on Belgian party politics. Communicate with an activist in India and a bureaucrat in Palestine.

I think any modern platform should make accessible—and amply—voices we usually don't hear.

It's not about whether you personally want to or need to drive. It’s about understanding the simple truth that in cities, if everyone tries to move by car, no one moves much at all. So the more of us that are enticed to walk, bike & take transit, the better it is for EVERYONE.

Paving tiles are so much easier to repair, pull & replace for utility work & #tree root care, and rearrange for new road layouts than #asphalt or #concrete.

Tiles are cheaper, can embed rather than spew #carbon, and provide drainage.

And pavers can hold the weight of a #bus.

#PavingTiles for the win!

Never forget, a 13-year study of a dozen cities found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. As for sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them. Via #StreetsblogUSA, read their article linked below. #bikelanes #bikes #cities #transportation #mobility #sharrows #infrastructure #urbanism

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says

Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

@universalhub you should really report on the vehicle involved, too, since it's almost certainly an SUV or truck.

Driver Hits Kindergartener w/ Car in West Roxbury.
“BTD proposed a series of steps to make the road safer for pedestrians, including reducing the number of auto travel lanes, but pulled the plan after some vociferous residents accused the city of being under the control of evil outside interests, such as bicyclists, out to ruin their neighborhood.”
