The Marine Drive multi-use path (MUP) construction is finished and open for use. The MUP is on the south side of Marine Drive between the Lions Gate Bridge exit and Capilano Road. The bike lane ends just before Capilano Rd, where it merges with the motor vehicle right-turn lane.

Why Are They Making Up Nonsense About Our Cities?

I recently wrote about ordering Copper Moon’s “White Christmas Blend” coffee beans. In my first article (I noted the arrival of the beans in a second article and can now confirm it is good), I noted that I usually buy my coffee beans at D’Amico in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn (which has its own White Christmas blend). Earlier today, I read a November 11 NY1 report titled Division grows in Carroll Gardens over new Court Street bike laneAs the headline suggests, the report is on a {very stupid for reasons noted in the report, signed person who has seen it first-hand) bike lane running along a largely commercial stretch of Court Street in Boerum Hill and Carroll Gardens. The article includes a quote from Joan D’Amico, the owner of D’Amico, complaining that regular customers have nowhere to part and business has been down 10% to 20% since New York City’s bike lobby rode roughshod over another neighborhood (I may have added the last part).

[Note] Bike Lanes and D’Amico

Many small businesses in Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens have been hurt by a new bike lane running along Court Street, including D’Amico Coffee.

“the evidence is overwhelming that safe #cycling #infrastructure offers a wide array of benefits for #cyclists, for cities, and for, well, everyone. If cities take a step back from expanding or actively remove these #bikelanes, they risk losing critical advantages that improve urban life for everyone”
“One of the strongest arguments for protected #bikelanes is their ability to improve safety—not just for #cyclists, but for #pedestrians as well”

Bike Lane BS: Lessons on What Cities Give Up By Giving In To Car Culture

Here are eight key things cities will lose (and how they will get worse) if they ignore or dismantle bike lanes.

"Montréal is often hailed as the most “biking-friendly” city in North America. But our research has found that only 2.3 per cent of the city’s roadways are allocated to bike infrastructure, with car infrastructure occupying the remaining 97.7 per cent of road space."

"...the current imbalance of spatial allocation is so overwhelmingly in favour of cars that it’s possible to make substantial improvements to bike infrastructure without significantly decreasing the space allocated per driver."

Something that should be obvious to everybody.

Melbourne has a similarly tiny amount of space allocated to bicycles with the same weird reaction for motorists about bicycles taking over everything.

Montréal’s bike infrastructure hardly takes up any space from cars on city roads

Bike infrastructure in Montréal takes up less than three per cent of the roadway, while car infrastructure has more than 90 per cent of roads across the city.

“Studies have shown that sharrows don’t actually provide any real safety benefits for #cyclists
“The problem was and continues to be that some jurisdictions use them instead of #bikelanes because they are so easy to install. Not to mention, car drivers just don’t seem to pay attention at all anyway”
“So, what’s the alternative? The best #bicycle #infrastructure for safe #cycling is dedicated #bikelanes that provide physical separation between #cyclists and vehicles” https://momentummag.com/sharrows-used-to-make-sense-in-theory-but-are-now-useless-in-practice/
