I enjoy expressing myself as a DJ, musician, and writer. When I write, it’s usually on my personal website/blog. I also write letters - on my late great-grandfather's 1953 Royal Quiet Deluxe typewriter or by hand.

Fred Rogers is a personal hero - the kind of Christian and human being I aspire to become.

I had a dream that they (the powers that be) had figured out a way to turn cereal boxes into screens that displayed ads and videos. Like e-Ink technology integrated into the cardboard. What a nightmare.

Good news among the bad news!

If the recent #0day attacks against Linux kernel+servers were launched against #chatmail relays, privacy of chatting with #deltachat is preserved. Why? Because we already assume the server could be actively hostile, and still not read or see any avatar, names or messages.

Since the March 2.48 zero-metadata releases relays/servers do not see cryptographic identities, and get no chance to launch "machine-in-the-middle" (MITM) attacks.

Delta Chat: Zero metadata, group descriptions, native audio/video calls and much more!

With the latest 2.48+ releases, a chat message reveals close to zero metadata to servers. For cryptographers and messenger enthusiasts, here are the key points on how we turned email very close to ...

We can’t rely on tech oligarchs, especially when these same companies and governments are the ones to sever our access to the internet and telecommunications. Here’s a guide for preparing to stay connected to the services you need and people you love during a shutdown. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/05/hackers-guide-circumventing-internet-shutdowns
A Hackers Guide to Circumventing Internet Shutdowns

Internet shutdowns are devastating for human rights. We can’t rely on tech oligarchs to save us, especially when these same companies and governments are the ones to sever our access to the internet and telecommunications. This is why it's important to set up communication mechanisms before a disaster happens.

I read through this every so often to remind myself why I really do need to stop using Apple products.

Google Broke reCAPTCHA for De-Googled Android Users https://reclaimthenet.org/google-broke-recaptcha-for-de-googled-android-users

Google has tied its next-generation reCAPTCHA system to Google Play Services on Android, meaning anyone running a de-Googled phone will automatically fail verification when the system decides to challenge them. Another day another Google take over the world, open web and mobile ecosystems. This battle seems to be lost already because governments are ignoring shenanigans of Google.

Can someone please inform the tech giants that no one wants an AI-assisted experience on every single app, but everyone NEEDS drinking water and a habitable planet. 🙏

We don't think any institution or state has the right to prevent families and friends from private chatting, physically or digitally. But the Cyber Authority China (CaC) seems to take offense:

- they made Apple remove #deltachat iOS for mainland china

- their great firewall appears to block some #chatmail relays

- if you ask DeepSeek directly about Delta Chat, it doesn't want to talk

It's pretty sad, really. Everybody on this planet needs, and has a human right to private communication.

Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device https://www.thatprivacyguy.com/blog/chrome-silent-nano-install/

That is the true definition of malware.

Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent. At a billion-device scale the climate costs are insane. — That Privacy Guy!

Google Chrome is downloading a 4 GB Gemini Nano model onto users' machines without consent, with no opt-in, no opt-out short of enterprise tooling, and an automatic re-download every time the user deletes it. The pattern is identical to the Anthropic Claude Desktop case I wrote about last month, but the scale is between two and three orders of magnitude larger. This article does the legal analysis and, for the first time, the environmental analysis. The numbers are not small.

Should Loops create a policy against generative-ai contributions across our server and expo app projects?

Please boost if you can, the majority vote will decide this important policy.

Hi, neighbors! I've been using Mastodon across various instances since 2018, maybe earlier. Lately I've felt the need to start using a smaller instance as my go-to. And then I remembered I made this account on writing.exchange nearly 3 years ago and haven't done anything with it. I've been using Write.as since 2020 and absolutely love it. And I've been meaning to get back into some blogging. So here I am. Check my bio for my blog URL and tags about some of my interests.
