I forgot to unlock the door to the chicken coop. 37 eggs are not exactly in egg state anymore. There is 57 eggs more and I'm afraid that my dwarfs do not eat them fast enough..

@Jordan Yeah and what's most important for me, it is actually fun to take notes with #obsidian.

@Jordan

I do. Got all my article notes in #obsidian. Also all my daily todos, meeting notes etc. are there. It just works for everything after some customization and workflow thinking.

I did some more work on #DOStodon, the #Mastodon client for #MSDOS.

I added a splash screen, a busy indicator for network access, you can scroll the entries now, there is a profile viewer and you can like and boost.
Image attachments are now displayed, too.

I spent the whole day building a website and now I can't sleep because it's not finished yet. My head is like

Building things is so fun

5 years ago, I had to retrain myself on how to use social media.

Specifically, how to make stuff that I like without consideration of an audience.

This was a harder thing to learn—mostly because I had to convince myself that lack of engagement was a success.

When I berng this lesson up, other people often remark, "How pointless!"

But is it? I believe certain things should exist on social media just because.

And this is why it's important to do things that don't scale.

Social media #algorithms magnify societal biases.

Here's a striking example. Enigma is an #infosec conference that works hard at gender diversity. Yet the most viewed talks are almost all by (white) men. https://www.youtube.com/c/USENIXEnigmaConference/videos (switch to the "popular" tab).

If users are 5% more likely to click on thumbnails conforming to the stereotype of an infosec expert, the algorithm will reflect that in its recommendations, and also *compound* that bias over time.

This needs to be better known.

USENIX Enigma Conference

The Enigma Conference centers on a single track of engaging talks covering a wide range of topics in security and privacy. The Enigma Interviews offer intimate round-table discussion with leading experts. Our goal is to clearly explain emerging threats and defenses in the growing intersection of society and technology, and to foster an intelligent and informed conversation within the community and the world. We view diversity as a key enabler for this goal and actively work to ensure that the Enigma community encourages and welcomes participation from all employment sectors, racial and ethnic backgrounds, nationalities, and genders. Enigma is committed to fostering an open, collaborative, and respectful environment. Enigma and USENIX are also dedicated to open science and open conversations, and will make all talk media freely available on the USENIX Web site.
