Usable security needs accessibility at its core. Our User Experience Toolbox builds on 10 years of practice to connect usability, security and accessibility in one framework.

Because if a tool isn’t usable, secure and accessible, it isn’t truly effective.

How do we design cybersecurity that cares about a specific user? We have two new papers coming in early 2026:

🔹 CybAS: A 3-factor scale (Present, Future, Control) to measure the psychological burden of digital threats. Conditionally accepted for #CHI2026 in Barcelona. 🔹 Digital Safety for Migrants: A participatory design study to create AI-enabled advice interfaces with international students from the Global South. Accepted at #USEC2026.

From Anxiety to Agency: New Research on Human-Centered Security at CHI 2026 and USEC 2026 - Cori Faklaris' blog - HeyCori

These studies address the emotional and situational barriers to digital safety. By bridging the gap between user mental models and se % curity technology, we have developed a new psychometric scale % for cybersecurity anxiety (CybAS) and designed human-AI interfaces specifically for international students' security and privacy needs.

#HCI #USEC #UsableSecurity people: Would you be interested in tutorial papers or conference workshops about scale/item development and validation with CTT and IRT Methods?

Seeing as a lot of you use scales, but very few of you do psychometric work, it might be a beneficial thing to do (if publishable). Thoughts/comments?

Windows 11 recently improved its passkey experience, part of a broader pattern worth paying attention to. We've been working hard within the FIDO Alliance to remove friction around passkeys, since improving usability is one of the most important drivers to boosting passwordless adoption in both the consumer and enterprise worlds. Moves like these help passkeys become just as operationally viable as they are technically sound.

There’s also a benefit to this architectural pattern that people miss at first glance that enables passkeys to really scale in real-world environments. Check out my blog to learn more.

First day is almost over, but we had very interesting papers being presented today with lively discussion.

#EuroUSEC is a pretty nice #usablesecurity conference with a great community. It’s always a pleasure to attend 🤗
