Hi everyone! I finally came around to write an #introduction post.

I'm Sebastian and I work as an #orchestralibrarian in a #symphony #orchestra. My cultural interests are #music (#classicalmusic, #jazz, #choir #singing), #literature, #history and #art. Other interests are #tech, #gaming, #running, #football (meaning #soccer) and #cycling.

I came to Mastodon in the 2022 wave of new users, but it took me this long to get this post done. Don't really understand why.

The New York Times Spelling Bee puzzle says on its blog page that they want suggestions about missing words, but they want you to ... just send them an email. The provided account has an autoresponder (amusingly named "Beeatrice Buzzby") that says they can't process all suggestions (which implies that the triage process is at least partially manual. And I challenge their assertion that they try to keep to common words; there are some dramatically rare words in many puzzles!).

It would be dramatically more efficient (for players, and for NYT!) if the app had an optional "suggest a word" mode that let you double-tap a failed word to report it. Since they collect and publish aggregated stats anyway, they could publish a list of missing suggested words, ranked by frequency.
