Imagine the "Freax Foundation." 😆

Worth repeating: Claims of "AI" democratizing anything (coding, creative endeavors, etc) are always BS. The thing locking out people from doing that is not having the time/resources.

You want to democratize coding/art/creativity? Give people paid time off to do it and access to infrastructure. Easy.

A frustrating thing I saw online recently-- a layperson switched to Linux Mint and commented that it was frustrating to use and lackluster, given the amount of work that went into installing it. An experienced linux user was one of the first to chime in with <a wall of text explaining why, actually, you're wrong, it's not frustrating>

With all the Windows nonsense, regular people are making the effort to install a new OS, a task which the vast majority of people have never had to do and don't have the existing skillset for. Keep in mind xkcd.com/2501 here.

Instead of telling them they are wrong, that it's not frustrating (even though they are frustrated by it), either ignore or try to help. I'd think these were bots from Apple trying to capture any of the Windows==>Linux people by being jackasses to them on behalf of the Linux community, but this has been a stereotype of a Linux user for a long time.

I am currently using #fedora as my main #linuxdistribution.

The main selling point about Fedora was the frequent updates, but I don't think that I'm deep enough into Linux to feel the benefits.

I think I should try #distrohopping to at least know what the competition looks like.

What #linuxdistro do you guys recommend for a guy that wants to learn low-level #programming and that likes to test things?

PS: I had also tried #zorinos before Fedora.

@CodeMacLife I self host everything, and have done email since 1999. You are going in exactly the right order. Storage is definitely the easiest thing to get started with. Email is dead last in the list of things to self host. if you ever get to it at all. Try doing some storage and see how it goes. See if you enjoy it.

Things to look into: Nextcloud, truenas, or even just buying a synology device.

You don’t have to build the device from parts and install the OS yourself. If the data is under your roof and you’re running the equipment yourself, you’re #selfhosting.

MIT research finds that personalization features in LLMs can make them become overly agreeable over time, mirroring user viewpoints and potentially creating echo chambers. The study of 38 users over two weeks found that user profiles stored in model memory had the biggest impact on 'sycophancy' - reducing accuracy. https://news.mit.edu/2026/personalization-features-can-make-llms-more-agreeable-0218 #AIagent #AI #LLM #GenAI #AIEthics
Personalization features can make LLMs more agreeable

User context in long-term interaction data increases the likelihood an LLM will become overly agreeable or begin to mirror the user’s viewpoints. This phenomenon, known as sycophancy, can harm a model’s accuracy or create an echo chamber that can proliferate misinformation.

Just saying: a base install of #Mastodon is 1.3GB (this includes over 500MB of node.js libraries). That's with one user. And #gotosocial? About 150MB, after its first user.

Immich is the real deal for photo management.

Face recognition, map view, timeline, mobile auto-upload, shared albums, machine learning-powered search. It's the closest self-hosted equivalent to Google Photos.

Docker Compose with PostgreSQL backend. Active development with monthly releases. 50k+ GitHub stars.

If you self-host one thing this year, make it your photo library.
