Prototype MIDI controller for the SC88 is working - sends commands, plays files etc. Now to make it into a proper PCB and stick it in a box with a wee screen and some buttons (the aim is to have a compact unit that can be used alongside a simple MIDI keyboard that can access the advanced features most standard controllers cant without needing a computer / DAW)

@octothorpe He's probably traumatised by the number of times he had to say 'demilitarised zone' :p

Note to self: For the next version of my PIC assembler, add a way to explicitly declare constants and register numbers instead of just using equ for both. That way it can warn me when I mix up the WF and LW instructions (debugging nightmare).

This wasn’t a fluke. It wasn’t an accident. It was a self-inflicted wound caused by greed, negligence, and decades of policy failure. We chose profits over children’s brains - and now we wonder why people can’t think straight. - Rachel Hurley

Scientists Discover Why America Got Dumber

New research reveals how lead exposure poisoned an entire generation’s brains, explains the crime wave of the ’90s, and why 29 million American homes are still dangerous today

This isn't an (always) accurate depiction of #ADHD, but it certainly has the vibe.

Happy #AdhdAwarenessDay

Edit: Somebody just made *me* aware that the correct day would have been the day before yesterday. As if I needed a reminder …

I got #Suno to turn the Samsung washing machine song into Reggae just because.

Good God. A restaurant uses AI to generate menu and this is what it reads.

@fixatedpersonsunit Time to switch to de-googled chromium. Or better yet @Vivaldi.

@bastardsheep

Favour Firefox but switching to Librewolf. Still like to have a few browsers available for testing and troubleshooting and stuff.

@Vivaldi

@fixatedpersonsunit @bastardsheep @Vivaldi

A really nice Firefox fork is @zenbrowser
Getting a lot of love lately.

https://zen-browser.app/

Zen Browser

Beautifully designed, privacy-focused, and packed with features.

@fixatedpersonsunit @quaff ublock origin and Privacy Badger both work neatly with Zen browser 😊
@Rohan3479 @quaff They even work with Edge, which is also Chromium-based. Of course that's Microsofts browser so 'meh' or even 'boo', but still.
@ElBeeToots @Rohan3479 @quaff Don't forget Floorp Browser!

@quaff

Thanks, will have a look.

@bastardsheep @Vivaldi @zenbrowser

@fixatedpersonsunit @quaff @bastardsheep @Vivaldi @zenbrowser Does @zenbrowser support or plan to support iOS? One of my requirements before giving any browser a go is the ability to keep bookmarks synched across all devices.

So far the only browsers I know of that have mobile bookmark synching + ad / tracking blocking on iOS are @Vivaldi and Orion by @kagihq, but Orion is MacOS/iOS only, where has Vivaldi supports Windows & Android too.

@bastardsheep @fixatedpersonsunit @Vivaldi @zenbrowser @kagihq

I just used Firefox on iOS and you can sync there. I think it's important to stay FOSS as much as possible too. Enshittification is a very real problem.

@quaff @bastardsheep @fixatedpersonsunit @Vivaldi @zenbrowser @kagihq It really doesn’t handle dark mode well. If you turn on dark mode in the browser it tries to do that to webpages and really screws up the colours making sites impossible to view.

I’m not sure if the iOS version even does basic tracking protection. But it certainly doesn’t do ad protection.

And I’ve had a few times when at pubs & restaraunts, the table-ordering website ONLY supported chrome branded mobile browsers.

I’d like to support FF more. A lot of its hate (even stuff I’ve knee-jerk reacted to) with calmer minds is really overblown. But the small annoyances add up.

@bastardsheep @fixatedpersonsunit @Vivaldi @zenbrowser @kagihq yeah on iOS it's not recommended to use anything but Safari. Orion is a good alternative but no Linux or android version yet.

Firefox is a great fit for Android (Ironfox).

@fixatedpersonsunit I was able to force it back on, but then I only use Chrome for work stuff. Firefox on desktop and Kiwi on Android.
@fixatedpersonsunit I'm surprised they warned you. I assumed they'd just silently disable it and if asked about it they'd just go, "What, it doesn't support manifest v3 or whatever!"
@fixatedpersonsunit Yeah. I'm back on Firefox, but even Mozilla is playing the track you and sell your data and search streams to Google game. Might have to start using Brave or something.

@jdroy

Had a few recommendations for LibreWolf. (Thanks, 'Toots!)

LibreWolf Browser

A custom version of Firefox, focused on privacy, security and freedom.

@fixatedpersonsunit @jdroy it’s great browser, I’m using it everyday, but you have to accept some cons

@fixatedpersonsunit
Better it is...

#Librewolf is one of many alternatives...

@mills

Jinx! Was just posting that. 😊

@fixatedpersonsunit Unfortunately I will have to consider this as well if good adblocking becomes impossible on Chromium. The problem is I don't like Firefox.
@licht @fixatedpersonsunit yeah...a friend was telling me ublock lite wasn't blocking youtube ads sometimes TT
If you somehow happen to be on a mac there is another browser Orion that can install ublock but sadly no windows version
@emergencygg @fixatedpersonsunit For now I managed to make that registry edit to make extensions last a bit longer but that's just a matter of time. I don't like Firefox, I don't like Brave with all the crypto stuff, and I don't like any closed source browser. It's looking dire.
@fixatedpersonsunit if your really need extra time there's a flag in chrome://flags to undo this. should show up near the bottom if you search for "extension", I cannot remember what the specific title was
@craftxbox @fixatedpersonsunit They are likely banking on the power of defaults; i.e the majority of people will be unaware of this and take it at face value. It's a form of software propaganda, much like the idea of a default web browser or search engine.

@fixatedpersonsunit
Google really deserves its own "Carry On ..." film.
