I have been a happy happy @kagihq searcher for a month now, and it is great. I just discovered they have their own version of maps, and it is awesome. I thought that would be the last thing I depended on #google for, but I don't think so anymore.

Tried to search for one of my own Toots on Mastodon itself. Couldn't find it, had to look up how operators worked. Still couldn't find it.

One search with Kagi: bam, first hit.

Paying for #Kagi search instead of using the "free" #Google search would now seem like a bargain for Elvira Schadlow, don't you think?

It cost her $11,000 because she picked the first search result, the one Google was paid to prefer over the hotel's official site.

Have you ever been fooled by a Google search result?

"Free" search costs more than you think. Someone Googled her hotel, clicked a top result, and was charged $16,559 for a stay that should've cost under $5,000.

Scams like these are everywhere in ad-driven search, and more people are falling for them every day.

The most expensive search engine is the "free" one.
