Recent message to #Denver city mayor, regarding 93 deaths on city streets last year:

The status is not quo. We cannot continue to coddle drivers when their presence forces out all other options for travel. The city's petrified fear of upsetting people who value free parking over bicycle and pedestrian safety will never get us a home that's beautiful and quiet, much less safe and unpolluted. PLEASE examine your prejudices and realize that your focus on promoting driving while barely accommodating any other travel (even if *technically* possible) is literally killing us.

Madrid closed its central business district to cars for the first time during the 2018 Christmas period. The result was a 9.5% increase in retail spending on Madrid’s main shopping street, the Gran Vía. Plus there was a 71% drop in air pollution. “If you care about the bottom line, budgets & taxes, then you should care about urban biking, because it’s a money saver. It’s ironic when so-called fiscal conservatives attack biking, when their efforts just show a lack of understanding of math.” — @[email protected] with @[email protected].

The resulting benefits of a ‘car-less’ household are myriad, but few are as quantifiable as the money most people sink into a depreciating asset that sits unused for 95% of the time.

A man used LLMs to generate hundreds of thousands of "songs", then used bots to stream them billions of times, to collect $8m in royalties. https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/north-carolina-man-pleads-guilty-music-streaming-fraud-aided-artificial-intelligence-0 Is there a better metaphor for late-stage capitalism than burning resources to make songs that are never listened to, then steaming them to robots that will never hear them, ad infinitum?
Not density OR trees. Density AND trees. Better cities are climate action. #UrbanTruth
No. 33 in my photo collection of signs of unique Spanish-language business names ending in –ería: PULQUERÍA

Pulque is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented agave (maguey) plant sap. It is popular in central Mexico where the plant is grown. A "pulquería" is a bar/restaurant where pulque is featured on the menu.

Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) said: “We’re gonna give Iran $14 billion to fund this war with the United States? We’re gonna give Russia billions of dollars to fund their war with Ukraine? We’re literally putting money into the pockets of the very nations that we are fighting right now. We’ve never seen this level of incompetence in war-making in this country’s history.”
@nantucketlit Hello! I'm currently doing a deep-dive on early 20th century walk-up apartment architecture in Cap Hill and Cheesman. Lots of Spanish Revival, Mediterranean Revival, Art Deco, etc. So many amazing beautiful buildings in these old Denver neighborhoods.
