DYK some brown rats cup their hands to scoop a little water to drink?

This little one spent most of the morning following me around as I tidied up my garden, and pouncing on all the little creatures I accidently disturbed. Given the number of worms and other creepy-crawlies it consumed, I'm amazed it could still get airborne by the time I'd finished!

#UrbanWildlife Fedi friends — I have a midnight visitor mystery for you (& I don’t have the answer).

What’s your guess on the species of a roundish mammal about twice the size of a house cat but which didn’t glide gracefully like a cat (more of a lope) — furry — short or no tail — kind of a light gray color? I didn’t see it from the front & can’t tell the shape of head or ears. I saw it during a rainstorm as it crossed my lawn & vanished under some shrubs (in Sacramento Valley).

Let me know if you have a guess. I’ve never seen an opossum or mole around here, & we have no more open land for at least a mile (all homes & commercial areas).
