Crested Tit.
I think the star species for me, over this winter, has been this bird.
They have been brilliant during the workshops I've run for clients, visiting the feeders and posing for some magical images.
I can't guarantee next winter will be as good, but if you're interested in photographing these Highland beauties next winter, email me for details, and I can put you on a list of interested parties.

I have always loved turkey vultures--the way they kettle and lift on vents of air like paper kites, the way the black pepper of their stubble fuzzes the bare red skin of their winsome faces, the way they take responsibility for life.
These friends greeted me on the walk home from an encounter with kingfishers on the river, so close in the trees I could feel their wingbeats when some of them took flight, reminding me there are so many kinds of magic.
A small swarm moved into my bait hive I had up a tree a couple of weeks ago. Got it down today and opened it up to reveal this beautifully crafted honeycomb, really calm bees and plenty of brood. I've cut this out and put the bees and all their comb in a nuc so I can move them into my apiary in a few days.
