It doesn't get more white guy than Welcome to Wrexham going to Lesotho and subtitling the Black women, but not anybody else.

Shaun Harvey's Leeds accent is incoherent if you don't speak Midlands, and a Black dude from Lesotho doesn't get subtitles either, but you know, regardless of how we speak men can't hear women (particularly in leadership roles) and it's of course worse for women of color, so since what they say is critical to the narrative, they get subtitles. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

This is the 100 year anniversary of humans having an idea of what the heck the sun and all the stars actually are. If you had asked a leading astronomer in 1925 what the sun was, they would say that it's basically the same as Earth, but very hot.

In Cecilia Payne's doctoral thesis she was the first to say, from spectral data, that the sun was overwhelmingly made of hydrogen and helium.

It was later described as "the most brilliant PhD thesis ever written in astronomy".

@aud @fromjason @grajohnt Yes, Klarna could make them work off their debts. In a couple years you can go back to the mall and buy another pair of jeans!

By the way, Klarna charges very high fees to merchants, so anything you can buy with Klarna is probably overpriced. If you want to be nice to a local merchant, pay cash. Otherwise use a rewards card and get the majority of the merchant fee back. There is no good use case for this thing.

I want to live in a timeline, but nobody wants to work for these kinds of companies ever because they tried AI.

Corporations breed billionaires. Their stock ownership is used as collateral for debt that is used to buy up and cannibalize the rest of the economy.

Ultimately though a stock valuation depends somewhere on sales then for gross stocks on the fantasy of future returns.

Imagine a world where the public boycott large companies and M&A.

@grajohnt every time I have to chat with Customer service through an app and I get a survey afterwards I take the time to give the actual human being 10 stars but I always write something in the text box asking me what could have been better.

I like to talk about how their chat bot is so awful that it has never been able to help me, that I always have to be transferred to a human, and that the bot is so annoying that Iโ€™m usually pissed off by the time I get the human. And thatโ€™s not fair to the human. And even though Iโ€™m frustrated when I get the human they are always helpful and patient and kind and they always save the sale. I tell them that if I couldnโ€™t chat with a human when I needed to I would stop using their business, I tell them that they will never be able to replace the humans with bots because their bots are not good.

It probably doesnโ€™t help, they probably donโ€™t care, but I want them to have the feedback anyway.

@grajohnt I do wish people would stop anthropomorphizing these algorithms, though. Itโ€™s not an intern, itโ€™s not thinking, it doesnโ€™t model understanding or knowledge. It canโ€™t learn or be taught. Itโ€™s an empty statistical model.

It can do some useful things, but we far too easily impute attributes to it that it doesnโ€™t have because it โ€œfeelsโ€ human.
